Let’s Talk Bookish: Blogger’s Impostor Syndrome

Hello readers! Today’s post is a Let’s Talk Bookish. This weeks was a freebie, so I decided to go back and do one I missed while I was gone.

Let’s Talk Bookish is a weekly meme that was created by Eternity Books and is currently hosted by Book Nook Bits. They also created the thumbnail I used. Every Friday, bloggers write posts discussing the topic of the week.

This Week’s Prompt: For this fifth Friday of June, use this week to revisit an old LTB topic, or write about something you’re interested in! You can also check out the LTB archives on my blog and on Rukky’s for more topic ideas.

Prompt I picked: May 14, 2023 – How long have you been blogging? Do you feel like you’ve ‘figured out’ blogging, or do you ever doubt yourself? Do you feel you ever have book blogger’s imposter syndrome? How do you find confidence with your blogging and writing?

I have been blogging now for almost 3 years. My 3 year Blogiversary is in August!

When it comes to figuring it out, I don’t think I have. After 3 years, I still have doubts that I’m good at reviewing. You may have noticed I don’t really do dedicated reviews. I’m just not confident in it. I have written multiple, full-length review, but I don’t post them. I do make wrap ups each month, so I guess dedicated reviews wouldn’t make sense.

I have been trying to improve lately by writing my thoughts down either as I’m reading or right after finishing a book. I used to wait until the end of the month to review every book in my wrap ups, but I did write Junes as I read the books. It’s so much easier to recall my thoughts!

I am not 100% confident in my writing, but I have done a few things to stop being so anxious about it. When I started blogging back in 2020, I would write a post, read it over 10X, read it out loud to myself another 10X, and sometimes read it to my husband out loud. I was so scared of making even one grammatical error or misspelling one word. However, I don’t allow myself to do it anymore. I will read over a section out loud, just so I know I wrote everything clearly, but I don’t stress over the smallest stuff.

As far as impostor syndrome goes, I don’t feel that way. I think there are certain aspects in which I feel more confident than others, but I don’t feel like an impostor.

I hope any blogger out there feeling that way knows there isn’t one right way to do this. We are all different with different experiences and different preferences.

  1. I’m never confident in my reviews either which is why I like memes like WWW Wednesday. That way I can say what I thought about a book without having to write a review. I do write some though in the hope that I will improve with practice 😃

    1. It is true we can only get better if we practice. I really respect those people that can write huge review on one book. I never have that much to say.

      1. No, nor me. Also I don’t want to know too much before I read a book.
