A Song of Salvation follows Zaira who is a reincarnation of a god and is having trouble harnessing her powers. She meets a guy named Wesley who is prophesized to help her defeat the god of destruction, Ozvios.

They journey, with a wanted criminal, to Earth so Zaira can learn to harness her powers.

This one follows Elisheva, who is starting fresh in her life. Her church turned their back on her because of a previous addiction and she is now starting over at college. The night before her first class, she has a one night stand with a man who later turns out to be her professor.

I have yet to read anything by Victoria Lee and I know her books are some of those that you either love or don’t. Let me know if you’ve read any of her books!

This is a YA romance following two counselors at deaf camp. Lilah is having trouble with her identity as a deaf person because she is not completely deaf nor completely hearing.

When she meets the lifeguard, he offers to help her brush up on her ASL skils and romance ensues.

I find this one so interesting. I haven’t read a non-graphic novel that was about a deaf person yet. My husband was also recently diagnosed with mild hearing loss. This is the least amount you can have and doesn’t necessarily require hearing aids. However, we have been thinking of becoming fluent in ASL as we don’t know if his hearing loss will worsen with time. I do know SOME ASL, but I’m nowhere near fluent.

I’m just going to copy and paste the Goodreads description here. It seems chaotic, but in a good way, and I’m not sure how to paraphrase it.

Goodreads Description: Montserrat has always been overlooked. She’s a talented sound editor, but she’s left out of the boys’ club running the film industry in ’90s Mexico City. And she’s all but invisible to her best friend, Tristán, a charming if faded soap opera star, though she’s been in love with him since childhood.

Then Tristán discovers his new neighbor is the cult horror director Abel Urueta, and the legendary auteur claims he can change their lives—even if his tale of a Nazi occultist imbuing magic into highly volatile silver nitrate stock sounds like sheer fantasy. The magic film was never finished, which is why, Urueta swears, his career vanished overnight. He is cursed.

Now the director wants Montserrat and Tristán to help him shoot the missing scene and lift the curse . . . but Montserrat soon notices a dark presence following her, and Tristán begins seeing the ghost of his ex-girlfriend. As they work together to unravel the mystery of the film and the obscure occultist who once roamed their city, Montserrat and Tristán may find that sorcerers and magic are not only the stuff of movies.

This one follows a true crime podcaster Alix Summers who meets someone with the same birthday as her named Josie. She thinks this is just a coincidence, but they start running into one another more and more. Alix starts investigating into Josie’s life and uncovers some unbelievable secrets.

Adina goes to an ivy league college full of rich white people and she is neither rich or white. She gets into one fight at school and it costs her to lose her scholarship and is kicked out of school.

She learns about a competition that could gain access to her scholarship and get back into her school. What she didn’t know is this competition is life or death.

The description says its Squid Game meets Ace of Spades and The Bachelor.

I am so fkn excited for a new Acevedo book! I read all three of her books the last year one of her books came out and she quickly became a favorite author of mine.

Flor can predict someones death. She has a family get together because she has predicted her own death. She is keeping secrets from her sisters and wont tell them anything about what she has seen.

We also see a bit about each of her sisters and a few other family members. It seems like a lot of characters to follow in one book, but I’m hopeful she can pull it off.

Arwin thinks its going to be a day at school like any other. He notices a few students are missing from class and no one else seems to remember them. His classmate Emma seems to be the only other person who seems to agree the classmates existed at all. They must journey together to find what is happening at school. Why are people missing and why doesn’t anyone remember those who are lost?

This is a sequel to a rivals to lovers foodie romance called Battle Royal. Battle Royal follows Sylvie. She was previously eliminated in a baking competition by Dominic. Later on, they battle against one another to make a cake for a royal family member.

I thought while reading that Dominic reminded me of a snarkier Paul Hollywood, of the British Baking Off/Great British Baking Show, and a lot of people in the reviews agree.

The sequel follows completely different characters, but I’m excited to jump right in! I’m actually going to reread book one before I go in for this one.

I said in my 2nd Chance Authors post last december that I wanted to give Malerman one more chance before writing him off. I have read Bird Box, Malorie and Daphne by him and I only liked the first one.

This is a collection of short stories. In one, a man confesses to a murder he didn’t commit, another takes place in space, another follows couple who are trapped by a new home gadget. The last one, which I think is the most interesting, follows a murderer who kills a man not knowing the victim is a triplet. The other two triplets stage a fake haunting and seek to murder the killer.

Either way, I am hoping this book will show me whether Malerman is for me.
