Let’s Talk About Every Book I Own: Blogmas Day 13

Hello readers! Today’s post is sort of an intro for something I’m starting in 2023. I want to go over every single book I own, but not all at once because I own a ton of books. Later this month will be another updated TBR for all the books I own, then I want to start talking about all of them in January, maybe 10 to 15 at a time.

Today is the day after Christmas, the last day of Hannukah, Boxing Day, and the first day of Kwanzaa. I hope everyone had/is having a great holiday season!

Right now I want to go over some of my stats! I have been working on a book log of every book I own since May, and I’m finally done with most of it. I currently own 355 books across 132,678 pages, which is a 373 average page count.

The first stat I have here is read versus unread. I have read 290 of my 355 books, making that almost 82%. I’ve tried very hard the last few years to keep control of my TBR and I think it’s paid off!

This one breaks down how many books are in a series vs stand alones. I’m actually surprised at how high the stand-alone section is! I love stand alone books as much as series, but I prefer to own series.

Let me know below if you are a hardcover or paperback lover! As you can see, I love paperbacks.

Occasionally I prefer hardcovers for certain books, but most of the time I’m going for a paperback every time.

Here is a breakdown of the years I read the books I own. I can’t believe I own books I read all the way back in 2007! I would’ve been 13 in 2007.

2011, 2019, and 2021 were my best reading years, so I’m not even a little surprised those are my biggest years.

This is a breakdown of the year the books I owned were published. I am not at all surprised by these numbers. I don’t own a lot of classics. I have almost one full shelf of them, which isn’t many.

In the past few years, I haven’t prioritized classics and I don’t see myself doing so anytime soon. I don’t hate them, but they are not my favorite thing.

This graph has all my genres. My biggest genre is paranormal. This is because I almost exclusively read vampire books in high school and I still have all of them.

The difference now is I don’t have to buy every book I read now because of Libby and Hoopla. Back then, I only read the books I owned or that my school library had, which wasn’t much.

I was actually surprised how even these three are. They aren’t exactly one-third each, but very close. I did not think I owned over 100 middle-grade books!

I don’t really buy YA books as much anymore, but I will not be getting rid of all the ones I already have anytime soon.

This stat made me realize I use Hoopla too much for self-published authors. I know they do get paid from Hoopla, but it can’t be as much as if I were to buy their books. I absolutely need to put more money into them in the future.

For the top 5 publishers, I was absolutely floored to see how many publishers are owned by penguin alone. I am so happy Penguin was not able to buy Simon and Schuster! They really have too many publishers already.
